'Tis the Season

Saturday Ambassador

The holiday season is upon us once again, which presents several excellent photographic opportunities: Children in Halloween costumes, family gatherings, home-cooked meals and lovely holiday decorations are just a few. Also, don't forget that nature puts on a remarkable show this time of year. Autumn leaves are always interesting and offer myriad possibilities.

If you eschew the fall scene because "it's already been done", consider this:
  • You have choices as a photographer, and can employ techniques such as depth of field, selective color, unique compositions and creative processing alternatives to achieve compelling results.

  • It really doesn't matter if it's been done before; challenge yourself to create something new.

When photographing the raiment of the autumn forest, seek unusual perspectives, exotic color combinations and exquisite light.

Utilize aperture settings to create a shallow depth of field in order to isolate your subject from complex backgrounds.

And, above all else, enjoy yourself!
